Trace / Écart 2010-
This piece exists both as a performance and as a video performance. Here I work with
philosopher Liam Sprod (Nuclear Futurism, Zero books).
By having a tracing of a pattern onto the naked skin of my back I try to sense what the transcription looks like via my skin sensitivity and copy what I feel/read. It acts as a physical form of the game “Chinese Whisper’s”. It also works on the notion of the white spaces on paper, the bare space necessary to contrast the eye to see and read.
From there it extends into the gaps of the world, the becoming-time of space and the becoming-space of time, following the structure described by Jacques Derrida, in Of Grammatology (1967)
